Music Matters News Jan '14

Greetings from Music Matters!

We are having an exciting year! For the first time in almost 30 years Music Matters now has a place to call home! In September we officially moved into the Loughrea Rugby Club having spent all our time spread out among various venues. We will always continue to outreach to all corners of the county but are relieved to finally have a steady base! We now have 6 individual teaching rooms as well as two large orchestra rooms and thanks to the very generous Kilreekil National School, we are now the proud owners of not just one but TWO grand pianos! Very exciting indeed. Having our own space gives a sense of ownership and belonging to the children but also to the teachers who have the peace of mind of having their own rooms. Our office can now happily house our library of sheet music as well as a handsome portrait of Dr. Suzuki himself! Our Suzuki community now has the space to expand and grow closer. We are constantly on the lookout for local musicians who would be interested in training as Suzuki teachers to help bring our Suzuki programme well into the future.

As always, we have many projects on the go for 2014. We are hosting the National Graduation Ceremony this year on Sunday the 13th of April, and so we are busy planning. Alongside this our orchestra is practicing hard ahead of their performance at the IAYO festival in the National Concert Hall in February. They are also delighted to be taking part in the MEP composer in residence scheme involving talented Scottish composer James Ross.
