Music Matters

On the go since 1985, Music Matters has become an important element in music in Galway and Connaught. Music Matters caters for children as young as three years old, right through to adulthood. If you are interested in providing your child with a musical education, and helping them to develop their talents, then Music Matters can help you do so.

Where we are:
Based in the village of New Inn, Music Matters’ organisation covers almost all of the townlands of east county Galway.

The main objectives of Music Matters are:

  1. To benefit the community through the establishment of a music education scheme, facilitating the teaching of all musical instruments, the organisation of concerts and ensemble playing and facilitating the running of music exams.
  2. To promote musical activity in general in the East Galway area.

What we do.

  • Run a school of music in East Galway, serving Loughrea, Ballinasloe, Mountbellew and New Inn.
  • Promotes the Suzuki way of teaching strings Has classes in most orchestral instruments and in piano. Traditional fiddle and Leaving/Junior Cert also taught.
  • Organise the Irish Suzuki Piano Teacher Training Course under Director Mary McCarthy.

Terms

  • Student Fees for 2008/2009
  • ½ hour individual – €185.00 per term
  • 20mins individual – €140.00 per term
  • ½ hour group traditional fiddle class – €65.00 per term
  • ½ hour shared class, 2 students – €100.00 each per term
  • Orchestra – €30.00 per family per year
  • S.E.I.i.- €10.00 per family per year

Discount: 10% discount will be taken from families with 3 or more individual classical lessons. Discount is deducted from the individual and trad classes combined and does not include orchestra or S.E.I.i. fee.

The Board of Music Matters has the following members:
Chairperson is Martina Kingsland (community representative)
Secretary is Mary Hynes (parents’ representative)
Treasurer is Sarah Biggins (staff)

Other members of the Board are Máire Ní Dhuibhir, Una Nic Lochlainn, (staff members), Lorraine Corcoran (parents’ representative) and Karen Dervan (past pupil). Over the next few months the constitution will be tweaked, election procedures will be put in place, administration changes to make us more efficient and offices formally opened. Information will be given regularly to you the members on our progress and any offer of help in your particular area of expertise will be very welcome. Our office number is 090 96 75629 and is open from 9.30am – 1.30pm Tuesday to Friday. You will be talking to Deborah.
